Es Sostre
This month´s restaurant has only been running for 5 months and was recommended by a well known ´gourmand´ yacht skipper; thanks for the tip John.
Situated on the old road to Esporles/Establiments, just a couple of minutes off the via cintura the Es Sostre is well worth a visit and has its own large car park.
It has a ´country house´ feel approached through a vine covered terrace furnished with attractive teak furniture with views over a valley.
The day we went was quite hot so we decided to eat inside out of the sunlight.
The high beamed ceiling with cream walls and matching table linen creates a warm and relaxing ambiance.
They offer a menu del dia for 15 Euros with a very good choice of dishes including wine, water and coffee.
There were several others in the restaurant that had obviously chosen the menu del dia and it looked very good indeed.
Having seen the short but imaginative menu we decide to go a la carte.
as we were reading the menu we were given some fresh bread rolls with a black olive pate.
To start we chose to share their carpaccio de gambas attractively sprinkled with crunchy pink peppercorns- delicious.
To follow we chose magret of duck in mango sauce and a dish that I had never seen offered before, rabbit with onions and lobster!
Both were beautifully presented and were excellent.
Being lunchtime we didn’t have the appetite for desert but again observing our fellow lunchers they looked very tempting.
With aperitifs and a bottle of Macia Batle rosado the bill came to 54 Euros.
To find Es Sostre take the old road to Esporles/Establiments (C/. Coronel Beorlegui) and just after the petrol station on your left look out for the sign (on the right hand side of the road) to the restaurant car park to the left.

Ana Purna
For curry lovers the relatively new Ana Purna restaurant in Portals Nous, on the top floor of the plaza, opposite Flintstones bar offers genuine value for money.
I recently tried a take away and was happy that they said that it would take 15 minutes. This gave me time for a cool glass of amber nectar on their terrace!
I chose chicken korma and lamb bhuna. They were both excellent.
Main dishes range from 8 to 15 Euros. They are open every day between 18:00 and 24:00 Tel: 971 677 209.
Port ´Alt
One of my favourite haunts, restaurant Port ´Alt at the end of calle Oratorio in Portals Nous will be only serving dinners from the end of June. They have also introduced a very popular acoustic guitar duo called Nylon Fusion who play a combination of what they describe as unobtrusive, background music of ´boss, swing, funk´ on Tuesdays and Fridays from 21:00 till 23:00.
