Dear Islander,

Firstly I have to congratulate Charlotte Smith of Squadron Yachts who won our draw for the pair of BMIBaby flight tickets.
Thanks to all who entered and of course a special thanks to Trudy of Servitour Travel for so generously donating the prize.

Whilst in this mood, congrats. are also due to Sally of Salymar who has produced a bouncing baby boy, Jaume.

Will the war effect this Summer?
Iīm told that the charter brokers dealing with the English market seem to have enquiries flowing in.
As expected however the US market is very slow. (see page. 13)
I have been asked to write quite an article for Boat International on the superyacht refit and repair scene here.
So if you think that I should include you or your company, please get in touch with me immediately.
I hope to give as comprehensive a coverage as possible and also donīt fancy the bollocking Iīll get for leaving you out!

On the same subject I have been invited to a press ījollyī organised by a Madrid based PR company who work for the local chamber of commerce. It will be interesting to see their view of the current and future development of the yachting scene here.
Being a born again cynic I think their sights are set lower in terms of yacht sizes!
I hope to report back in the next issue.

Iīd like to draw your attention to some interesting letters, particularly the very informative one from Pat at Network on temporary importation of non-EU yachts.

A little bird tells me of yet another catastrophe in Palma where a container ship hit a sailing yacht that was moored on the outside quay in Real Club Nautico!
The sooner these (and donīt forget the tugs) get shifted to the Dique Oest the better.

This issue, believe it or not brings us into our seventh year of publishing The Islander.
I would like to thank all who have supported us in many ways through this time. And, I repeat, that this is your magazine. If you have any tips, information, warnings and comments good, bad or indifferent regarding the local yachting scene, donīt keep it to yourself, get in touch with us.

Lastly, as featured on the front cover, many congrats. to all those of the Joves Navegants who have persevered since 1992- take a bow ladies and gentlemen; even those in Portals and Porto Pi who prefer to remain anonymous!

Regards,
John Rule
