WINING & DINING

The restaurante I would like to recommend to you this month also comes with a recommendation of dish.

The Bistro Mar in Alcudia is within the Alcudiamar marina, overlooking the moored yachts.
You can chose to either sit inside the restaurant itself or on its large terrace.
Caldereta de Langosta (lobster stew) is a Menorquin speciality and it is said that at Casa Burdo in Fornells you will be offered the quintessential caldareta.
I have never tried Casa Burdo but for me the Bistro Mar version would take a lot of beating.
Cheating a little, we opted for the caldereta de bogovante (male lobster) which works out a little cheaper than langosta.
For the uninitiated, the lobster is served in a rich soup of tomato, onion, green pepper and garlic and fish broth.
It comes to the table in a large earthenware bowl with slices of toasted baguette.
This dish is not for the self conscious because of the need for lobster pliers and probes and the wearing of a ‘bib’ to protect your shirt-front as you tuck in!
Not a cheap dish at 79 Euros for two (sold by the weight) but having said that our dish would have easily fed three.
