Dear Reader,
I hate to start off with a correction to the last issue but I must!
The not so deliberate mistake was that we said it was the ferry,´Almudaina’ that collided with ‘My Auriga’ in September 2000; it was in fact the ferry, ´Millenium´ that was involved.
This, plus the fact that I have had several other stories about near misses involving these ferries that seem to disregard any of the ‘rules of the road’, only goes to show that this is a prevalent danger and that extreme care should be taken.
Perhaps someone should produce a dossier to present to the ferry companies and the authorities?
With this in mind check out the logo in the Master Bates section!
The RTR car rental company saga seems to rumble on with another angry letter, this time from a client. (see letters to the Editor- page 5)
The plot thickens with this particular story because the angry client returned to Mallorca recently and confronted RTR´s management.
Yet again he was fobbed off with empty promises of returning his deposit and was finally told that the car in question suffered 700 Euros of damage- he absolutely denies this and has denounced them.
One wonders how often they have done this?
Another question is, can they legally ´take´ the deposit before the car is returned?
It appears that the exit of International yachtmaster Training from Mallorca has left a bad taste in many mouths; I don’t think this story is over! (Pg 1 and letter Pg. 5)
I’m happy to say that finally, we have got the new ´Islander´ internet site up and running.
The address is - www.theislander.net.
The June issue is up as I write and hope that the July issue will be up before you read this.
Please take a look at it and pass the address onto anyone you think might be interested.
I was hoping to give you some more info re the situation down in Andratx but true to form there’s officially no information, employing the Mallorquin mushroom management technique of keeping us in the dark until we show our heads and then throwing ***t on us!
There’s an interesting piece of news regarding Antigua and Barbuda (news section) and I’m sure many would wish that the local government would take a leaf out of their book.
All this ´bullshit´ about quality tourism whilst they almost completely ignore the yachting industry here and through the local ´buraucratic proceedures´ almost discourage the business!
Have a good summer.
