This month takes us to a brand new restaurant- bar in Costa de la Calma / Santa Ponsa.
La Naranja is run by recently arrived Vicky and Kevin who offer, from midday, drinks and snacks or a full meal throughout the day till late at night.
There is an outside terrace, an attractive bar area with sofas and coffee tables plus a separate 36 seater, light and airy restaurant area.
As you would imagine, ´orange´ is the predominant (but certainly not overpowering) decorative colour along with black and ivory.
Kevin’s extensive experience of fusion cuisine is immediately apparent when you take a look at the menu.
The lunch / evening menu offers starters from 2 to 7 Euros with main dishes ranging from 10.50 to 18.50 with 5 choices of desserts, all around 6 Euros.
To whet your appetite the main dishes include Pan-fried marinated fillet of beef; chicken wrapped in ham; rack of lamb; roast salmon; marinated pork belly and pan fried tuna.
Kevin prides himself that everything is made on the premises with the freshest ingredients that he buys himself from the local markets.
They have also embraced the local produce using choritzo, salchichon and jamon in some very interesting combination dishes.
Looking at their ´tapas´ menu (which is far to extensive to list here) there are some interesting dishes such as ´Turkish eggs´; ´French toast stuffed with banana´; ´Sautéed, buttered mushrooms´ and a formidable looking ´Full La Naranja breakfast´.
The tapas range from 1.50 to 7.50 Euros.
On Sundays (from 13:00 to 22:00) they offer a set meal for 11 Euros with a choice of two starters and either pork or beef followed by a choice of 2 desserts. An interesting option on Sundays is that you can bring your own wine (small corkage charge).
This place has got to be a winner and is highly recommended.
