XII APOSTOLES

This month we go into deepest Arenal, certainly not ‘far from the madding Kraut’!
But fear not, at this time of the year almost everything is closed except for a relatively new restaurant called the 12 Apostoles.
Although without doubt German run, this restaurant offers truly authentic Italian cuisine.
The style, as the name implies, is almost cathedral-like with huge arched windows, tall ceilings with painted frescos, red velvet curtains with chandeliers and candelabra.
It has a really bustling atmosphere with the tables close together. For this reason it’s probably best to go as a crowd and not as a pair- on a rainy Tuesday lunchtime it was packed!
It has a varied menu with a menu del dia at 4.95 (the day we were there it was, salad; spaghetti with chicken in a cream sauce followed by a fresh fruit salad) and a Sunday menu at 12.50. Children’s portions at only 2.00.
It opens at 06:00 offering croissants etc and runs through the day till late.
Their specialities are pizzas, with a good range to choose from (priced at 8.70- 11.00); the pastry cook throws the dough before your very eyes and between 12:00 and 18:00 all the pizzas are at half price! Be aware they are big and will satisfy at least two.
We chose to test their other dishes and started with carpaccio with flaked Parmesan and rocket salad. We then opted for a solomllio with a Roquefort topping and lamb chops with herb butter- both were excellent. The price, with a carafe of house red was 54.75.

The Penny Roberts Cookery School has been open on the island now for five years and their artist friend, Andrew Watts, has been here for around the same amount of time.
During this period they have both come to love the island’s beauty; Penny through her appreciation of the simplicity of its food and Andrew through his eye for artistic harmony. Both of them now feel it is time for a celebration through their Food and Art!
Penny has taken a few Mallorquin flavours and given them a touch of her own whilst Andrew has selected some of his impressions of the island; these are all now presented together in a new little Cook Book. Penny and Andrew would like to invite you to their celebration where you will be able to view a collection of Andrew’s beautiful watercolours and to sample some of the recipes from the Cook Book.
If you would care to join them on either Friday evening, 2nd April, from 6.30 - 9.30 or Saturday morning, 3rd April, from 10.00 - 2.00 you will be most welcome in Portals Nous. Tels: 971 676010 / 676 894789
