Mallorca based Vela 2000 who have been aligned with the Doyle Sails camp for the past 2 years as DoyleVela Superyacht have packed up their sail bags and jumped ship to join Elvstrom Sobstad, one of the oldest and most respected sail manufacturers.
“This is an exciting development for us” agree both Patrick Whetter and Spike Thompson founding partners of Vela 2000.
“Elvstrom are really keen to enter the superyacht market, and their ideas and enthusiasm are like a breath of fresh air.”
Elvstrom Sails was formed in 1954 by Olympic sailing superstar Paul Elvstrom, and became a well known name in the dinghy and small cruising market. Their merger with Sobstad in 2002 guaranteed their domination of the medium to maxi yacht racing market with the Genesis technology.
Whilst they have been skirting the flanks of the superyacht scene for a number of years, this new partnership with Vela should make them a household name among the intimate world of sailing superyachts .
“We have a serious contribution to make” said marketing manager Susanne lsen, “our research and development programme, manufacturing techniques and worldwide representative network will bring real benefits to the superyacht customer. Put these together with the knowledge and experience of Patrick and Spike and the impressive loft facilities of Vela 2000 and we have a blueprint for a successful partnership”.
