Your Daily Paper...

Y
ou can now enjoy the luxury and convenience of printing and reading your own favourite newspaper on your yacht, wherever you are in the world.
With a satellite connection or the new Vodafone 3G connections, a computer and a printer on board, you can now print todayÕs editions of over 200 different titles from nearly 50 different countries, before they even hit the news stands in your home country. So, you can now impress your owner and guests by offering them their local daily newspapers with breakfast.

The service is from NewspaperDirect, the world’s leader in digital newspaper distribution. They currently provide this service to prestigious hotels, cruise lines, resorts, airlines and corporations around the world.
Extending their service into the super yacht industry is a logical move, and they have appointed us (E3 Systems) as their agents to launch this into the super yacht market.

Broad Selection of Titles
NewspaperDirect is an authorised out-of-market distribution partner for all the publishers they represent. You can choose from over 200 newspaper titles from 44 countries in 28 languages, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Borsen Dagblad and Yomiuri Shimbum, to name but a few.

Timely Availability
You can print any title you select on the day of issue, regardless of where the newspaper is published. Even more than that, the newspaper is ready to print as soon as the publisher sends the first edition to press.

How you print them
Using their software on a PC connected to a high speed data connection allows you to either print on demand, or schedule specific titles ready for breakfast for each guest’s daily order. The selected newspapers are automatically downloaded and printed. You can also print multiple copies of the same title and personalise each copy for your guests onboard with their name printed on the front page.

What do they look like?
All the newspapers printed appear in their original format and layout. With this service, newspapers are double sided laser printed on A3 paper, making them easy to carry around without messy newsprint smudges.

The data connection required
This is not a service that is suited to small yachts at present. Each paper downloaded is a substantial data file. With most satellite connections the cost of the download would make each newspaper printed very expensive.
The best option is to use a satellite data service where you are paying a fixed charge per month for unlimited data, as you do with ADSL ashore. The only satellite service providing this service currently is VSAT, such as those using the Sea Tel 4003 pedestal.
Vodafone´s new G3 data service is spreading and the performance is increasing. When this is running at the target performance the cost of a download for a newspaper could well be just over US$10, a reasonable expense for this luxury.
The cost of using Inmarsat Fleet MPDS could well be over US$100 per newspaper, making it a somewhat expensive morning paper!
However, if you are in port and connected to an ADSL line it would be considerably cheaper.
