LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Sir:

I read your articles about the International Yachtmaster Training School and thought you would be interested in the fact that the CEO Mark Fry, trademarked the word Yachtmaster in the United States in an effort to monopolize the training for this certification.
This has prevented the RYA from launching their Global Training in the U.S.
Maritime Professional Training, of Fort Lauderdale, along with Bluewater Yachting of Antibes on behalf of the RYA are endeavouring to have this trademark cancelled. Maritime Professional Training is self funding this legal action at great expense as a matter of principal.
MPT believes that Mr Fry applied to the US Patent and Trademark office under false pretences because in fact Mr Fry told the USPTO that he was the original user of the term Yachtmaster for training purposes and has exclusive right to the termīs use.
This has astonished the entire industry, as we all know that the yachting industry has used this term generically to refer to the trained master of a yacht and specifically to the well known Certificate of Competency issued for many years by the RYA.
If you would like more information or would like to comment, please contact us!!
By the way, I have enjoyed your website and articles!!

Sincerely,
Amy Greenspan
