Dear Islander,
It’s June already, the summer is in full swing and the World Cup Football climate has reached heat wave levels. The worlds press will devote zillions of column inches to the event, so I am sure that The Islander can stick to other matters. Having said that, I have already donated my 20 quid to the “Ladbrokes charity fund”, with a note saying that they can spend it now, because I do not expect to see it back!
But,being old enough to remember the last time we won it, I am still permitting myself to have a gamblers belief in miracles, and have covered my bet, with a punt on the possible scenarios relating to Wayne Rooney’s toe, which seems to offer more hope of a return!
Talking of gambling, our front page story, a continuing saga of big money and big ego’s embroiled in battle, seems to have an element of the gambling instinct which could pay off handsomely for the party that utimately wins. However the losers could be the many yachtsman that own or rent moorings in the Balearics, who may now have a serious question mark over their period of tenure, and hence it’s residual value!
Since last month we have had several reports in response to the Port Authority back taxes issue which our man Bates the dockside newshound fished up. Seems that other owners have now been threatened by lawyers in their country of residence to “pay up or else”. We hope to publish some legal background and interpretation on this rather complex matter in our July issue.
May I bring your attention to page 6, where we give some detail on where to find “The Islander” via our web site which is now updated monthly.
Plus we are now on www.puertopollensa.com and www.goalcudia.com in the “Sailing & Watersports” sections, with links to our own web site.
Finaly we wish all our readers an enjoyable summer, afloat or ashore and whatever your doing to relax around these wonderful islands.
