There is some good news for cruising yachtsmen visiting the Balearics, who want to check availablity at a chosen marina or port, and reserve a berth by booking via the internet, well ahead of time.
The website at: www.hooknautic.com gives marina information for the Balearic Islands, and currently features key data plus availability search and booking for 16 ports, with 13 of them around the coast of Mallorca, 1 in Menorca and 2 in Ibiza.
The site is available in Spanish Catalan, and English languages.
On a more ambitious scale a new website is going live on 20th October at: www.portbookers.com
This aims to cover the whole Mediterranean area including all available ports, both large and small with a comprehensive search facility and pre booking functionality.
The service is free, and designed to be user friendly according to Jorge Velasco, who is Director of Virtual Marina S.L the websites creators.
The search facility is split into three sections, enabling visitors to the site to choose from:
* An interactive map , which leads to a berth search and booking service for specific locations.
* A technical “Captains infomation” section, giving port entry details, VHF channel, GPS positions, weather data and shore services etc.
* A directory of local services such as hotels, restaurants and car hire etc. for each port location.
