Letters to the Editor

Dear Peter,
I had to smile while reading the November issue of The Islander, when I saw the picture of the car minus its rear wheels on the "Wooden Jack". Obviously a locals car, but fairly new, as it still has its bumpers!

I thought you may be interested in some pictures of the Lago menor area, where I live. It seemed quite a nice area when I bought my apartment just over 5 years ago, but seems to have deteriated since. (Nothing to do with me though!)

The footbridge has been like this for two summer seasons. Someone from the Ajuntamiento fished a piece of the railings out and attempted to fix it with parcel tape!
The rubbish bins have been full for over three days now. It seems to be becoming a common occurrence. The recyclable bins are often overflowing for days.

I cannot walk my dog at night for fear of treading in someone else´s dogs dirt. (The lights are often out at night) Yes, I do pick up after my dog! The answer to this seems to be "No Dogs"  signs going up last year. Not the dogs fault me thinks! How about educating the owners with the odd fine?

The edging stones around the lake fell in over 5 years ago, and were replaced, but no one could be bothered to take out the old ones.

I´m sure we will see the nice red flowers going in the Port area for Christmas, only to be removed after. And of course the pretty lights! At what cost? I think you will agree, after looking at these pictures, it could be better spent elsewhere.
Obviously it´s all part of the governments dynamic thrust to attract "Quality Tourism" I´ve seen from my terrace the obese, tattooed, sunburnt, drunken, foul mouthed, all inclusive, eat & drink until they vomit, quality tourists all summer!
Thank god it´s winter!
Rant over!
Mick Hollingworth.
