Hello, ‘Landlubber Laura’ here, reporting from the studios of the radio station Luna 100.3FM on things that are happening on the island this month.
I was delighted to find out that Allen Graham has become a charity! After many years of helping people in need on the island the retired Salvation Army pastor has established his own charity to raise money for children and teenagers here on Mallorca.
Already there are three fundraising events happening to swell the coffers of the new charity.
Rosemary Stone has organised a sponsored slim – lose pounds – raise euros! If you want to take part email me for a sponsor form.
Rose Atkins is opening a shop of new and nearly-new clothes in Son Caliu opposite Mercadona and, depending when you read this it is either ‘Good Luck’ or ‘Congratulations’ to Gary Monroe who is doing a bungee jump off the Middlesborough Transporter bridge – like you do! – on Sat February 11th.
Luna 100.3FM is supporting Allen Graham’s new charity so I am sure there will be many more fundraising events and stunts to tell you about in the coming months.
If you are of a romantic persuasion the Lions Club of Calvia is having a special Valentines evening at Utopia restaurant in El Toro on the 14th.
The meal costs 40 euros and the theme is ‘Lady in Red’ but host Fernando is not saying whether any Chris de Burgh will be played.
I am sure doesn’t want to put people off going!
If you want to exercise your brain why not join in the Calvia quiz league. Ten bars in the Calvia area compete each Sunday evening with Ian Morrison as quiz master.
More physical exercise is on offer at the Ocimax each Tuesday evening at 8.pm when the Mixed International Bowling League meets to do battle. New members are always welcome. Just turn up and ask for Eddie.
Carnival happens in February and if you want to take part in the Calvia procession it takes place on Saturday 17th at 4pm. There are lots of cash prizes on offer for the best float, group, etc.
That’s it for now, but if you want to tell me something so I can publicise it on the radio just drop me and email to:
laura@lunamallorca.com – and tune in to 100.3FM for more news of what local folk are up to!
